Today without SEO, you cannot rank your blog or website at the top of any search engine. “Search Engine Optimization is the process by which you optimize your online content so that they appear in top unpaid or organic results in search engines.” SEO has two parts, On Page SEO and Off Page SEO. Here I am going to explain On Page SEO Techniques, by which you can optimize your On Page and rank your website at the top of search engines.

You can control 99% of on page SEO factors, so don’t ignore on page SEO, you have to do on page optimization very carefully and understand the basics, because on page SEO is completely under your control.

What is On Page SEO?

On Page SEO is a process through which we make our website search engine friendly. So that the search engine can understand the structure of our website and content and be able to crawl. “Optimizing an article or website according to search engines (Google’s) algorithm is called On Page SEO.”

On Page SEO contains all the things that you can do inside your web page (website) to improve your search engine ranking. Such as content, page title, meta description, heading tag (H1, H2, H3, H4 etc), keyword density, alt tag, url structure, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, image optimization, page speed, internal linking etc.

When we optimize all these things properly, our website becomes search engine friendly and appears in search engines. For each and every post you have to do an on page seo, it tells Google or any search engine what topic your post is about and through which keywords to rank your post.

1. Use Heading Tags:

Heading tags are basically of six types, from H1 to H6 and its usage also varies. The keyword you target should be in H1. In the whole article, H1 can be used only once but you can use H2 to H6 many times according to your article. We have to put the most important thing in H1 and put all the sub-points in H2. It is important to have relevancy, never overuse the heading tags. Google crawlers can read our articles well, so we use H1, H2 tags.

2. Page Title Optimization:

You have to optimize your page title. The page title tags must be 55 characters or 512 pixels in length and contain the target keyword. When you do some search in the search engine and you see the search result, the blue title you see in, it is called page title.

3. Meta Description Optimization:

If you optimize the meta description properly, you will get good amounts of clicks in the search results. In search results, visitors first see your meta description, read it and then they click on it and come to your website. So in meta description, you should use effective words to attract visitors. You can use long tail keywords to attract visitors. According to Google, the meta tags/description should be 158 characters or 920 pixels.

4. URL (Permalink) Optimization:

Your URL should be short, simple and meaningful. According to Google, the URL must not exceed 75 characters. Make sure your target keyword should be in your URL. If you optimize all these things, then definitely your website rank will increase in search results.

5. Favicon:

When you open a website, you see a small icon in the left side of the title in the tab, which is called favicon. Your website should have a favicon because the favicon is an icon that represents your website. It increases credibility and trust, acting as the identity of a website.

6. Keyword Research:

Before writing an article, you have to do keyword research related to the topics of your blog and choose at least 15 to 20 low competition keywords and set your goal accordingly. You must have a list of keywords through which to rank your posts. You can find out by doing keyword research. If you miss any of your important keywords, you will lose millions of rupees which you can earn. So keyword research is an important process that you don’t have to ignore at all.

7. Target Keyword:

Whenever you write an article in your blog, start it with your target keyword, which you have used in your title and URL. When you write any post, you must use the target keyword within 100 words of the beginning. Target keywords must be bold, italic or underline.

8. Keyword Density:

Do not overuse the target keywords in the article. If you are writing an article of 1000 words, then the percentage of the target keyword in it should be upto 2%. For example, if you are writing an article of 1000 words, you can write 10 to 15 keywords in it. You can also use long tail keywords but try to avoid keyword stuffing. Keep your article neat and clean.

10. Internal Linking:

In this we link the page of our own website from one article to another. Internal links must be strong and relevant. There is a high probability that visitors will click on the hyperlink/anchor text and go to that interlink page, which will increase your traffic and trust flow. Due to this Google will get a positive signal, which will increase your website ranking. Link building strategies will boost your traffic.

11. Outbound links:

When you insert a link to another website in your post, it is called an outbound link.

12. Image Optimization:

It is important to take care of two things in Image Optimization, first is image seo and second is to reduce the size of the image.

  1. Image SEO – The alt tag is used in image seo, which causes the image to be indexed in Google and helps in ranking.
  2. Image Size – Basically the image size slows down the speed of your website and it takes time for the website to load, which will give the user a bad experience and it will negatively affect your website. You need to compress the image sizes, so that your website runs smoothly.

13. Website Optimization:

15. Robots Txt:

Make sure you upload your robot.txt file and mention which file you want to index and which file should not be indexed by the crawler. Robot.txt must be maintained properly; basically you control your search engine through the robot.txt file. If you do not want to index a page or folder of your website, you can put it in a robot.txt file that you do not want to index, Google crawler will not index your folder.

16. Sitemap:

If you have started your website and are publishing articles in it, then you should upload the sitemap of your website to Google Search Console. Through a sitemap, you tell Google that it is our website, page, post and content, please index it.

17. Minify CSS & JavaScript:

You should minify CSS and JS, which will increase the speed of your website. If you do not know how to minify, then you can do it with the help of plugin. Install a popular minify plugin & it will minify your css and javascript.

18. Fresh and Quality Content:

Your content must be unique, high quality and easy to understand. You have to write fresh and quality content for your website and it should be relevant to your audience. Do not use difficult words. Your content should be simple and good readability. Write content that can satisfy your website visitors. Remember if you steal someone’s content (duplicate content) and put it on your website, your website will not rank.

19. Content Length:

Write content that engages more people to your website and they spend more time on your website. Keep content length at least 1000 to 2000 words. This will reduce your bounce rate and increase your page authority.

20. Responsive Design (usability):

Your website should open easily on any device, your website should be compatible with mobile, tablet, laptop and desktop. Remember, a better user experience will bring more traffic to your website.

21. Use Social Share Buttons/Icons:

Today the audience are spending more time on social media. Adding social sharing buttons to your posts is mandatory, because social media usage is increasing day by day. Hence the possibility of increasing traffic to your website through social media increases. Social sharing button helps people to share your posts on social media.

22. Alt Tags:

When Googlebot crawls a website, it can only read content, not images. Using alt tags, we can tell Google what our image is about. So, use the focus keyword (alt text) in the alt tag, so that it presents the image correctly.
